Note: Frederick Burr Opper (1857-1937), pioneer of American newsapaper comic strips; famous for Happy Hooligan strip; also political cartoons for Hearst’s campaign battling the trusts. The above pair were also in Sam’s original guestbook, along with: Clara Clemens; Dorothea Gilder, Tyringham; Dorothy Sturgis, Boston; R.G. Cholmeley-Jones, N.Y.C. [Mac Donnell TS 3].

Charles H. Battey wrote from Providence, RI to Sam, enclosing two pages of verse about Sam’s latest “adventure” with the burglars [MTP].

Margaret Blackmer sent a telegram to Sam: “So Glad they did not steal you / Margaret Blackmer M.A.” [MTP].
