Sam signed the autobiography of Moncure Conway (1904) and wrote on the front pastedown endpaper: “imitator of Harte’s condensed novels—perished in a canoe (Now I recal his name— Prentice Mulford” [Gribben 490].
Possibly this month, Lucy J.M. Taylor (Mrs. Knox Taylor) wrote from Plainfield, N.J. to thank Sam for the many times he had consented to sign books for the benefit of the Maryland Sanatarium for Consumptives.
