August 24 Saturday – Isabel Lyon’s journal: Lucia Hull came this morning to have a chat with the King and he kept her until luncheon time, talking his gospel to her. She held to her own philosophy like the staunch little maid that she is and she stayed to luncheon at my invitation and then we jiggered over to her house to see her mother… [MTP 92].
Harper’s Weekly ran an anonymous article, “In His Hours of Ease,” p. 1,223. Tenney: “In his white suit and with a cigar in his mouth, seated on a rock and looking at a kitten in his lap (‘From stereopgraph copyright 1907, by Underwood & Underwood’). It was not considered necessary to identify the subject of the cover photograph as MT” [Tenney: “A Reference Guide First Annual Supplement,” American Literary Realism, Autumn 1977 p. 334].
Charles E. Cochrane wrote to Sam sending “another card I publish…for the counter sign card for Plasmon.” He referred to his letter of the previous day (not extant) [MTP]. Note: Lyon wrote on the letter, “Answd. Aug 26 ‘07”
Anna Sterritt wrote from Ireland to Miss Lyon after receiving a letter from Jean who wished to visit there; Sterritt was coming to NY and asked if she might ship some of her trunks to Sam’s house [MTP].
