Mrs. J. Borden Harriman, the President of the club; Mrs. Richard Irving, and other club officers received.

There was a large attendance, and Mr. Twain made a felicitous little speech. After the offical programme tea was served [Note: Fatout lists the speech but gives no particulars; MT Speaking 678].

Frederick A. Duneka wrote to Miss Lyon about plaster busts of Twain; also could the seats provided for the 19th be together? [MTP].

Thomas Commerford Martin for the Engineer’s Club wrote to Miss Lyon—was Sam’s decision final? [MTP].

Owen Oliver wrote on NY Herald notepaper to ask about Sam’s Autobiography in the NAR to explain the “Beriah mystery” and why the Col. Sellers name was Beriah in his copy of GA when it was Mulberry then Eschol and back to Mulberry in the Autobiography [MTP]. Note: Lyon wrote on the letter, “Didn’t know that name had ever been used. Originally used Mulberry”
