Independent Magazine printed an anonymous review of A Horse’s Tale, p.1377. “We feel the throb of the kindest heart in the world beating for the helpless, whether brute or human, in this book, as in its long line of predecessors” [Tenney: “A Reference Guide Sixth Annual Supplement,” American Literary Realism, Spring 1982 p.10]. Also Nation, p. 519 ran a brief review of A Horse’s Tale: “A magazine story printed as a thin book, this will interest both children and grown-ups” [“A Reference Guide Third Annual Supplement,” American Literary Realism, Autumn 1979 p. 191-2].
