Sam’s A.D. included comments on Theodore Roosevelt’s selection of William Howard Taft: “Things will go on well enough under this arrangement so long as a Titus succeeds a Vespasian, and we shall best not trouble about a Domitian until we get him,” referring to The Lives of the Twelve Caesars by Tranquillus C. Seutonius, translated in 1796 by Alexander Thomson [Gribben 677].
