Isabel Lyon’s journal:  “Mrs. Laura Frazer, the King’s earliest sweetheart came today, and her niece, a sweet girl, came with her. They have been visiting the Paines [MTP: IVL TS 71]. Note: there are several letters between Frazer and Paine in the files.

George B. Harvey wrote to Sam.

Dear Uncle Mark: / Dorothy’s schooling has begun at Deal and it will cause a serious break in the operation to take her away at this time. / Can you come down to Deal on Tuesday and stay as long as possible? I have communicated with Northcliffe and he is choked up with business engagements…impossible for him to leave the City, but he says he is very anxious to see you and have you lunch with him [MTP].

Emily C. Hawley wrote to Sam learning that he had moved to Redding, and sending her book, The Hills of Fairfield County. She thanked him for letting her use his squib on Hawaii for the meeting of the American Board of Missions this week [MTP]. Note: not in Gribben.

F.L. Shellabarger for the American Art Assoc. of Paris wrote to ask Sam for “a sketch or story for the December” issue of their small monthly magazine. Their assoc. was for American students in the Latin Quarter of Paris [MTP].

Francis Wilson wrote from New Rochelle, NY to decline Sam’s invitation to visit as his “play days” were over and he was “settling down to real work.” He was building a cottage [MTP].
