Clemens acquired another case of Queen Anne whisky [L-A MS]. Note: see June 8, 1907 for the full list of acquisition dates of whisky , intended as ammunition against Isabel Lyon.
Isabel Lyon’s journal: Election Day. Taft is elected President. The King said that if he had a preference it would be Taft, but that he regretted seeing the Republican Party continue in power. Mr. and Mrs. Coe motored up today. With them came young Mr. Lanier Winslowe [sic Winslow], a nice chap. I’d been having fear from Giuseppe’s cooking, but he gave us luncheon worthy of the best of French chefs, and the guests fed royally, and said so too. They left the house at 3 to motor back to N.Y. [MTP: IVL TS 77-78]. Note: L. Lanier Winslow would later work at the US State Department.
Before this date L. Coles wrote from London to enclose cards to be signed for her bazaar stall [MTP].
Amy McMartin wrote from Queensland, Australia to ask for an autograph [MTP]. Note: “Autogr. Sent Dec. 29 MLH”
William C. Wile for New England Medical Monthly, Danbury, Conn. wrote to ask Sam to deliver a lecture in Danbury to help with the building of a new hospital; Wile had met Clemens several times at the Lotus Club [MTP].
