George Walton Green wrote from N.Y. to Sam thanking him for taking part in the Nov. 28 Authors’ Readings in Chickering Hall [MTP].
December 15 Thursday, before – Sam’s letter to the editor ran in the New York Herald. In paying homage to Daniel Neall (1784-1846), Philadelphia dentist, reformer and abolitionist, Sam’s letter was signed “Mark Twain” and included the first verse of John Greenleaf Whittier’s poem, “Daniel Neall” [MTP].
