The villa was built towards the end of the eighteenth century by the will of the Odescalchi family , after having purchased various lands that included an ancient monastery of the order of the Humiliati and the medieval church of Sant'Agata of the eleventh century that still exists. The Count Andrea Lucini Passalacqua, by purchasing it in 1787 , made it his summer residence by calling collaborating architects and decorators as Felice Soave and Giocondo Albertolli . To increase the prestige of the villa was the heir GianbattisataLucini Passalacqua who enriched the library, and hosted important personalities such as Vincenzo Bellini who was a regular guest here from 1829 to 1833 . In addition to Bellini, Napoleon and Churchill passed through the villa .

Bellini in this villa composed his most important works such as Norma , Sonnambula and Straniera , thanks also to Giuditta Pasta , his inspirer who owned villa Roccabruna on the other side of the lake (now rebuilt and home of the Casta Diva resort). Popular traditions want him to hear her sing while composing.

The villa suffered a long period of neglect, but in the seventies Kiss Maerth renovated it. Today it is private property and is inhabited in the summer periods, as well as being home to private events.
