Horticultural Hall, Boston (Old)

Now demolished, the old Horticultural Hall served as an event space for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. In 1864, the Horticultural Society moved to this new Hall on Tremont Street, which had an exterior of decorated columns and Greco-Roman statues.1 Horticultural Hall became a space for the community, as described in King’s Handbook of Boston:

The ground-floor is occupied by stores; the second story by the Library Room of the society and a hall for the weekly exhibitions; and the upper story by a large and elegant hall used in addition to the lower hall at the annual and other important exhibitions. Both of these halls are often used for concerts and the better class of entertainments.
