Conventions Used

– The double dagger was used in reprints of vol. I and II to designate additions or corrections in later print runs. (Not used in Vol. III) These now may now be accessed online:
http://MarkTwainDayByDay.webs.com

Dates: I have followed the conventions used by the University of California Press on the volumes of Mark Twain’s Letters, except I offer the day of the week, which in some cases is helpful. To wit:

Editor’s note: The break here at the end of 1904 is a significant and propitious one. Samuel Clemens is just beginning to come out of his deepest mourning for the light of his life. He has taken a three-year lease on a N.Y.C. house, and has shown interest in political and social issues that would thrust him more fully into the role of American Sage. Without Livy’s influence and sometimes brake upon his expressed opinions, he would courageously stand as the conscience of the country.

Note: Additions and corrections since the print run in April, 2009. New material and corrections of old material are ongoing. This work is never “finished.” I wish to provide up to date information with each book sold. Up to the minute updates may now be found online, at http://marktwaindaybyday.webs.com/
