In Belmont, Howells sent Sam a postcard, glad he was coming to the Holmes breakfast [MTHL 1: 282].

Jesse Madison Leathers wrote from NYC to congratulate Sam on his return and hope that his new book would “excell anything you have yet written,” though he thought IA would never be equaled.
