Mark Twain first visited Paris July 6, 1867 as part of his "Innocents Abroad" excursion. In late February of 1879 he returned with his family and stayed until July. "The weather was miserably cold; he suffered from rheumatism and dysentery and spent most of his time in bed." Again in June of 1891, he passed through the city returning three years later for a stay of from March until June of 1894, then from October 1894 through May of 1895. (Mark Twain A to Z)

Pisa, a quiet town, with 25,000 inhab., is considered a favourable winter-residence for invalids on account of the mildness and moisture of its atmosphere. The heat in summer is oppressive. The Pisae of the ancients was one of the oldest cities of Etruria. It lay at the confluence of the Arnus and Auser (Serchio), which latter now empties itself into the sea. The present town, through which the Arno flows, lies about 2 1/2 M. from the coast.

"I have elsewhere spoken of the endless Winter of Mono, California, and but this moment of the eternal Spring of San Francisco. Now if we travel a hundred miles in a straight line, we come to the eternal Summer of Sacramento. One never sees Summer-clothing or mosquitoes in San Francisco—but they can be found in Sacramento. Not always and unvaryingly, but about one hundred and forty-three months out of twelve years, perhaps.
Seattle's location, harbor, and commercial development made it a logical place for the Great Northern's terminus, and Hill had the good sense to engage the persuasive and influential Thomas Burke as his local agent. Having previously achieved the creation of Railroad Avenue, Burke had little difficulty persuading the city council -- over the vociferous objections of the Northern Pacific -- to give the Great Northern a 60-foot right-of-way down the middle of the wood-planked roadway.
The city of Tacoma and surrounding areas were inhabited for thousands of years by Native Americans, predominantly the Puyallup people, who lived in settlements on the delta. In 1852, a Swede named Nicolas Delin constructed a sawmill powered by water on a creek near the head of Commencement Bay, but the small settlement that grew up around it was abandoned during the Indian War of 1855–56.
Mark Twain visited Africa on two separate journeys. This, his first visit, he writes about in "The Innocents Abroad". He actually visits the continent twice on this trip. At its furthest point he visits Egypt. Of course, in the world of fiction Tom, Huck and Jim take a balloon ride over the Sahara in "Tom Sawyer Abroad". Many years later Mark Twain visits South Africa, as written about in "Following the Equator".
