April 17, 1910 Sunday

April 17 Sunday - Clara Clemens Gabrilowitsch and her husband arrived at Stormfield. This was reported by the New York Times, p. 6, Apr. 18:

MARK TWAIN SEEMS BETTER.

Arrival of Daughter from Abroad Brightens Sick Man Considerably.

REDDING, Conn, April 17.—According to those in attendance, Samuel L, Clemens, (Mark Twain,) who is ill at his home, Stormfeld, seemed a little improved today. Mrs. Ossip Gabrilowitsch, Mr. Clemens’s daughter who reached New York Saturday from abroad, arrived here today, and her presence seemed to brighten her father very materially.

Dr. Robert M. Halsey of New York will remain with his patient until Monday.

John Bigelow wrote from Grammercy Park, NYC to Sam, glad he was home and offering the advice to change to a colder climate for health, not a warmer one. He enclosed a homeopathic pamphlet (not in file) [MTP].
