June 22 Wednesday – At the Hotel de la Ville in Florence Sam sent the same “TO WHOM THIS SHALL COME” note to William Wilberforce Baldwin in Rome, and added,

Sam also sent the same “TO WHOM THIS SHALL COME” note to William Archer in London, and added “I know she is gone, dear Mr. Archer, but I do not realized it I cannot give her up” [MTP].

Sam also sent the same “TO WHOM THIS SHALL COME” note to John Y. MacAlister in London, and added, “We sail from Naples, June 28. Great love to you & Mrs. Mac Alister” [MTP].

Sam also sent the same “TO WHOM THIS SHALL COME” note to Bram Stoker in London, and added, “To the Bram Stokers, with the love of those that are left” [MTP].

Sam also sent the same “TO WHOM THIS SHALL COME” note to Franklin G. Whitmore and Harriet E. Whitmore, and added, “I thank you dear Mrs. Whitmore, for those words of loving appreciation of her. She loved you with all her heart. How fine she was, how dear she was, how beautiful was her spirit” [MTP].

Note: these 5 notes were all postmarked June 22; Addressed in Isabel V. Lyon’s hand.

Sam’s notebook: “Ugo Piemontino [sic Piemontini] left for Leghorn with the children’s horses 4 days ago, to sail for America. / We are bringing Teresa [Bini] the housemaid with us” [NB 47 TS 13].

George Washington Cable in Brunswick, Maine wrote condolences: “I have heard tardily of your unutterable loss. I know no words to comfort your anguish…” [MTP].
