A Railroad Spur to Anaconda

The Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway is a short line railroad in the U.S. state of Montana which was founded in 1892. It was financed by the interests behind the Anaconda Copper Mining Company, (Daly and JJ Hill), and operated primarily to carry copper ore from the mines at Butte, Montana to the smelters at Anaconda, Montana, although the company was chartered as a common carrier and also carried passengers and general freight.
The Montana Union had attempted to block any parallel lines to Anaconda by realigning their tracks in a zig zag pattern through Silver Bow Canyon. They were forced to yield.

Fatout (p 247):  Next day he and Pond caught the train to Anaconda only by one of those adroit expedients familiar to the seasoned trouper.  When their trolley car broke down on the way to the railroad station, they jumped out and hailed a wagon driver, who asked ten dollars to taxi them to the train. Pond told him where he could go, then commandeered a grocery wagon for a dollar, and they clattered pell mell to the station, where they hopped aboard as the train was pulling out.
