October 16 Friday – The New York Times, p. 9, “Says Arnold Daly Will Try Vaudeville,” reported that Percy Williams, vaudeville manager and proprietor of the Orpheum circuit announced that Arnold Daly and company would produce a new one-act farce by Mark Twain entitled “Becoming An Editor,” which would open at the Colonial Theatre in Brooklyn on Oct. 26.

Isabel Lyon’s journal:  Early I went to N.Y. this morning on the 7:30 train, but when we reached Stamford the power on the electric division gave out, and we were hours prowling along the road to N.Y. I had time for only an errand or two, and then to go down to the Caronia, where we were to lunch with Captain Dow, Benare was there, and Will Wark, and Ethel Newcomb and C.C. and Mr. McCubbin, the purser. It was very gay, and very good. The Benare and I met Margaret at the station, and we came home to find the King watching for the coming of Margaret. He stood out in a loggia archway in the late twilight; his figure as straight and lithe as that of a youth [MTP: IVL TS 71-72].

Charles L. Andrews wrote from Bendigo, Victoria Australia to advise Sam that by lecturing on Mark Twain’s works he was raising “hundreds of pounds for Hospitals & other charities,” and listing various works he used. He wanted to be included in a list of invitations to Sam’s funeral [MTP].

New York Times sent an engraved invitation to meet Lord Northcliffe and Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1934) at a dinner on Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tower Hall, Times Building [MTP].
