Mildred C. Heywood (Mrs. Charles P. Heywood; widow) wrote from NYC to extend her “heart-felt sympathy.” She lost her husband six weeks before. Her sister was Mary B. (Mollie) Shoot (1863?-1954) who married Felix Wood (1845-1900) in 1879 and made her debut as Florence Wood with Augustine Daly’s stock company. She came to Daly’s troupe with a letter of introduction from Clemens [MTP].
An unidentified person (signed “Wanderer”) wrote from Vancouver, B.C. to Sam, having followed his career and wandered himself since 1869. He enclosed a clipping about Twain feeling old and feeling pain over his left breast, and said the clipping was what prompted him to finally write his praise [MTP].
