January 24 Monday — In Hamilton, Bermuda Sam wrote to Albert B. Paine in Redding, Conn.
Dear Paine:
Can you get this note to Mr. Moroso for me?
And will you send the poem to Clara when you write her?
Life continues here, the same as usual. There isn’t a flaw in it. Good times, good home, tranquil contentment all day & every day, without a break. I know familiarly several very satisfactory people, & meet them frequently: Mr. Hamilton, Mr & Mrs & Miss Sloane; Mr. & Mrs. Eels & Miss Waterman; Mrs. Hopkins—& so on. I shouldn’t know how to go about bettering my situation [MTP]. Note: Mr. & Mrs. William Milligan Sloane.
Louis J. Keller wrote from Chicago, Ill. to ask for “a large picture of yourself with your autograph, or, better still, some sentiment or quotation from one of your books—anything you wish” [MTP].
