September 29, 1909 Wednesday

September 29 Wednesday - In Redding, Conn. Sam wrote to Isabel S. Wayland (Mrs. John Wayland) in Stony Creek, Conn,

Dear Mrs. Wayland— / That bushel must be about due, now, & my mouth is watering, I thank you, thank you, thank you!

It is good to hear from you; I send my love to both of you, & I hope you are well, I’m not. I haven’t had a well day for 4 months, & shan’t have one for 4 more, I dasn’t fatigue myself, because of the pain it causes my breast; & now, b’George I’ve got the toothache—& how I am to get to New York I don’t know. Perhaps Providence will provide. He has that reputation,

However, I have a noble good time, right along, & was never quite so well contented in my life. Albert Paine comes over every day at mid-afternoon & plays billiards until 7. We have invented a game which furnishes lots of rest, & can’t tire anybody, The best game that was ever invented. We have played it straight along without a change for more than 3 months, & I guess we shall always prefer it to any other.

By mid-October I cal’late to begin to shout for company again. The Littletons have already promised to come about that time, & I want you & Marjorie Clinton & the Freemans to fall into the procession. I hope to have 2 or 3 guests in the house forever more. / Always affectionately / ... [MTP].
