Bookman (NY) ran an anonymous article, “Mark Twain’s New Book and a Commentator” in their June issue. Tenney: “MT’s Is Shakespeare Dead? is a comic piece which ‘can be read through cheerfully in an hour’—yet a writer for the Boston Evening Transcript finds ‘depth and subtletv’ in it!” [47].

English Illustrated Magazine for June ran Peter Penn’s article “Some American Humour,” p. 299-301. Tenney: “Contains passing and superficial references to MT; praises his ‘variety’” [48].

H.H. for the Princess Lwoff-Parlaghy wrote: “requests me to invite you to view her recent painting from life of the Poet / EDWIN MARKHAM, / before it is sent to the museum in Europe” [MTP]. Note: “Ans’d June 6, 09”
