June 11 Thursday – Dorothy Quick wrote to Sam.

My dear Mr Clemens

I received your letter just before I left I’m so sorry you could not have come out to commencement but I must confess I felt very much disappointed I wanted to show you my school and all my friends. Claire took the rabbits I think I can trust her

Dorothea Ofrdyttce took my bird   Nellie Arnold my goldfish.  so you see my pets are pretty well scattered around Plainfield.

I wish you were here. It is lonely here and there is no crowd. I except to be here until July first and I expect Grandpa and Grandma will be back by then   My Rose fever is not very much better but I have scarsely been here long enough to be cured.

However, I slept through all of last night.

      Which was a big improvement.

As I have been awake coughing all most every night for a whole week

I had a merry-go-round ride yesterday and got the brass ring Was’ant that exciting I wish you had been here to watch me catch it. it is almost an art. Please write to me very soon wont you.

With lots & lots of love to Miss Lyon & yourself send lots of hugs & kisses / Your loving / Dorothy [MTAq 171-2].
