June 16 Tuesday – Ferris Greenslet for the Aldrich Memorial Museum wrote to Sam about his train connections from Boston to Portsmouth on June 30—even the 10 o’clock train would suffice [MTP].

Mary R. Townsend (Mrs. W.W. Townsend) wrote from Marshallville, Ga. Mary wrote she was the daughter of Jere Clemens of Alabama, Sam’s “distant cousin.” She asked about an anecdote she’d read in his Autobiography in Youth’s Companion that she felt certain was of her father—where did Sam get it from? Also, she planned on republishing two of her father’s books about the Mexican War and the Texas War. Could he advise her on the matter? [MTP]. Note: extremely light faded letter. IVL: “Regret to say that the only advice he can offer is that the best thing for her to do is to apply to some publisher. Doesn’t know which anecdote is referenced to; Answd June 23”
