October 18, 1909 Monday

October 18 Monday - In Redding, Conn. Albert B, Paine wrote for Sam to prof. Archibald Henderson at Univ. N. Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Dear Prof. Henderson, / This is a line from both Mr. Clemens and myself, as the present state of Mr. Clemens’s health prohibits personal letter-writing on his part. He wishes to thank you for the newspaper clipping you sent him, and to congratulate you on the success of your article, both of which sentiments I desire to echo. I wish also to express appreciation of your very excellent article in the recent Harper Magazine. It is pleasant that they keep us side by side in that periodical—you in the lead, as is proper. / Very sincerely yours, / Albert B. Paine [MTP].

Sam also wrote to Frank J. Sprague.

Dear Mr. Sprague: / That fine are certainly remarkably good photographs. They will go in the billiard room—that is to say, The Treasury. I owe you many thanks.
Kindest regards to you & Mrs Sprague, with the hope that you & she will come again, & often. / Sincerely yours / ... [MTP].
