August 13 Monday – Sam’s A.D. of this day (untitled) declared his admiration for the work of Rudyard Kipling, especially Kim; this A.D. segment was selected for MTE [310-12].

Clemens’ A.D. this day included: Rudyard Kipling’s 1889 visit to Elmira continued—Some of his books mentioned [MTP: Autodict2].

Isabel Lyon’s journal:

I started for N.Y. Oh joy! By way of Boston I went, & had Mr. George Brush to nestle beside me to talk on moral—socialistic—issues all the way to the city. He is going to send me pamphlets on Socialism for he says I’m a budding Socialist. I wonder? I found C.C. at #21 & we went together up to talk with Loudon Charlton about the plans for a concert tour this winter.

John Howells dined with us & we talked over the plans for the new Redding house. J.H. has good ideas & high ideals [MTP TS 107].
