March 10 Wednesday — Clemens A.D. for this day is listed by MTP. In a note in the L-A MS, Clemens wrote, “About10th (suspicious) Duneka examined securities. Reported 12th.”
Norman Libby for the Bridgton Public Library wrote to Sam c/o Harper’s, noting that the American Library Association had classified JA as fiction, Libby had accepted it as biography—which did Sam intend, fiction or biography? [MTP]. Note: source indicates Sam’s reply was after Mar. 12; see entry. On the reverse: IVL wrote: “Never departed from history when I make Joan speak or make any statements about her...”
Ellis D. Robb wrote from Eldora, Iowa to send Sam another article from the Chicago Record-Herald about the Pilots of the Mississippi. His friends at Keokuk had told him many stories about Sam’s “Roughing It days” and wanted Clemens to know his books gave him “many a pleasant hour” [MTP].
Lora White-Kesler wrote from Carthage, NY to ask Sam where she might obtain his story of Oliver Cromwell and a child which she thought was titled, “The Three Disks” [MTP].
