March 24, 1909 Wednesday

March 24 Wednesday In Redding, Conn, Sam replied to the Mar. 19 of Von Beck Canfield: “Mar 24— / Don’t think I ever put it on paper, but put it in a lecture years ago. He is the Moncoon—Kingman” [MTP] Note: for some reason the MTP dates this as “after 19 March” though Sam clearly dated it Mar. 24.

From the Mark Twain Library Association minutes, meeting at Stormfield:

March 24

On Wednesday afternoon at 4.30 P.M—was held the 3rd quarterly meeting of the officers of the M.T.L.A. contrary to the usual custom of meeting at the Library, the officers met at the residence of our President, Mr. S.L. Clemens. Dr, E.H. Smith and Mr W.E. Grumman were unable to be present, and only three comprised the meeting, Mr. H A Lounsbury, Mrs. Ralph Lyon-Ashcroft & the Sec. No business was transacted, but it was decided to put through a matter voted on in our previous meeting, that of having the by-laws printed, and a copy to be given to each person taking books from the library [copied by Tenney, Nov. 15, 1981]. Note: Isabel Lyon and Ralph Ashcroft had married Mar. 18, some six days prior.
