March 5, 1909 Friday

March 5 Friday — In Redding, Conn. Sam began a postcard to Dorothy Quick, which he lost in his table drawer and which he then found and finished on Mar. 31.

[written across photograph of SLC with Lyon and Ashcroft]
L. If you could only repent!
C. Alas, I can’t. And won’t.
A. Try. Do try.
C. I won’t. I feel ready to cry because I didn’t do it some more.
[written below photograph and on the back:| March 5. Dorothy dear, have I sent
you this before? The likenesses are very good, I think [MTP]. Note: see Mar. 31 entry.

John Mead Howells wrote from NYC thanking Sam for his check through Mr. Ashcroft, and returning $44.70 in overpayment [MTP].

National Geographic Society per O.P. Austin wrote to Sam that he’d been nominated for membership and enclosed information (not in file) “as to the work and purpose of the Society” [MTP].
