May 10 Thursday – At 21 Fifth Ave, N.Y. Sam replied to Gertrude Natkin’s May 5-8:

Hail & Aùfwiedersehen, Marjorie dear! & thank you for the blots—which I duplicate. Indeed it has been a troublesome captivity, but the end is near by, now, for if the weather permits, I am to leave my room day after to-morrow (or at furthest Monday) & break for the woods & freedom —that is to say, Dublin, N.H.

An autographed photograph? Why, I did think of it long ago, you little witch, but of course it wouldn’t have been proper etiquette for me to offer it, you know. If there is one in the house you shall have it right away; & if there isn’t, Miss Lyon will send out & get one.

Good-night & good-bye. I love you dearly, you dear little Marjorie (blot) & I’m glad you have shed those two unnecessary years (blot) [MTAq 28]. Note: “at furthest Monday” was May 14, the day he left N.Y. See Sam’s May 13 to Natkin.

W.B. McGarvey for International Spiral Pin Co. wrote to Sam advising of a 6% dividend on preferred stock for 1905; he enclosed a check for $219 [MTP].
