Isabel Lyon’s journal: “Lou and David arrived to visit mother, but I couldn’t meet them, for I was full of the King’s reception today” [MTP: IVL TS 62].

Bruno Frede wrote from Altona a.d. Elbe, Germany to ask for Mark Twain’s autograph. He included some verses in German [MTP].

Zoheth S. Freeman wrote a card thanking Sam for his weekend at Stormfield [MTP].

George L. Robinson, Clara’s tour manager wrote to Isabel Lyon (though catalogued as to Clemens) [MTP].

Joe Twichell wrote from Hartford to Sam, assuming he had already seen what Joe enclosed (not in file) about Julian Hawthorne, who had turned from literary pursuits to mining, much to Twichell’s displeasure, though he did not know Hawthorne’s situation. If Julian was poor and his family in need, Twichell hoped his mine would be a bonanza. Joe had spent time with his newly married daughter Harmony in NY and in passing Sam’s old abode judged, “from the look of things that your tenancy there is ended,” something he regretted since he often had to make trips to the City. He reported that Gen. [Daniel Edgar] Sickles was home in NYC but looked “sadly old and feeble.” Why hadn’t Clemens written—was he angry? [MTP].
