November 12 Thursday – Sam’s A.D. for this date focused again on the two burglars at Stormfield [Hill 209]. Note: Sam also dictated on the burglary on Oct. 6 and Dec. 8.  

Isabel Lyon’s journal: “In bed all day, worn out. Paine came and dined with the King” [MTP: IVL TS 79].

Frank N. Doubleday wrote to Lyon (though catalogued to Clemens) [MTP].

Charles A. Ellicock for the Mark Twain Club, Cleveland, Ohio wrote to ask Sam for his autographed photo “and some quotation from any of your writings” for their new club [MTP]. Note: IVL: “Mr. Clemens has no photos but will be glad to sign one if they can find one they like & will send it” ; “Ans. Nov 25 MLH”

Herbert E. Bowen of Harpers wrote to Sam that it would be convenient for Col. Harvey and Lord Northcliffe to “come up to Redding for the night on Friday…Nov. 20” [MTP].

Dr. G. Victor Janvier wrote from Royersford, Penn. to ask for an autograph [MTP].

Ernestine M. Kaehlin for Wyoming History & Geology, Wilkes-Barre Penn. wrote to ask Sam for one of his bookplates [MTP]. Note: “Ans. Nov. 16 MLH”

J.A. Ward, “a perfect stranger” to Clemens wrote from Troy, Mo. This is a 16 page letter asking his advice about publishing his poetry [MTP]. Note: “Ans. Nov. 25 MLH”; and IVL: “Refer him to Publishers”
