November 22 Sunday – In Redding, Conn., Isabel Lyon wrote for Sam to Helen Keller.
Dear Miss Keller:
Mr. Clemens asks me to tell you from him how very glad he will be, & we shall be, to see you on January 8th. It will be a very great pleasure to have you with Mr. & Mrs. Macy. And when I write Mrs. Macy’s name, that reminds me that I must tell you Mr. Clemens sent a photograph to Mrs. Macy last May. I remember it very distinctly, but she shall have another. Just at that time several photographs were lost in the mails. Both photographs sent TO Mr. Clemens, & those sent by him.
Mr. Clemens sends his love to you, & his warm regards to Mr. & Mrs. Macy, in which I most heartily join [MTP]. Note: John Albert Macy.
Isabel Lyon’s journal: “We have loafed very much—but today Captain Dow and I went down to see Mother for a few moments” [MTP: IVL TS 80].
Laura A. Lombard wrote from NYC to invite Sam to the Browning Society Symposium Dec. 29 and 30 at the Waldorf [MTP]. Note: “Ans. Nov. 24 MLH”; IVL: “Thanks & very sorry not to be able to be present but” (unfinished)
Sybil Kane Walker (Mrs. Alexander Stewart Walker) wrote to accept Sam’s invitation, along with “Mary & Harry & Stewart” and herself “to spend Tuesday night (Dec. 15th) with you. All of us are coming up in the Rogers’ Auto…” [MTP]. Note: they are not listed in the guestbook for Dec. 15.
