August 29 Thursday – Isabel Lyon’s journal: Today I went to spend the day with Santa who appeared suddenly from Norfolk. She is beautifuller than she has ever been, for Boston agrees with her and her intense happiness in her life and in her art are making for her an existence that is ideal. It was a scurry to get off—a scurry to get my home train and to bed I am—exhausted. Mr. Baker went in on my train and he has a proper appreciation of the King. So we talked forever [MTP TS 96]. Note: George Barr Baker.
Charles E. Cochrane wrote from NYC to Sam that he had forwarded his Plasmon card to Ashcroft, but was told no advertising would be done till Jan. 1908; so asked for return of the cards [MTP].
Theodore I. Coe for Howells & Stokes wrote to bill Sam $225.01 from Harry Lounsbury [MTP].
Alice Minnie Herts wrote to Isabel Lyon [MTP].
Charles P.G. Scott for the Simplified Spelling Board wrote to ask Sam if he was ready to return the paper, “Some Proposed Improvements in Spelling”? [MTP]. Note: Lyon wrote for Sam on the letter, “To be frank about it / never look at the lists as I am thoroughly interested in other things—while I could become strongly interested in a simplified alphabet, cannot take any further interest / Every time I think on it I still leave off the ughs & that was all I engaged to do”
