November 6 Wednesday – William Dean Howells saw Sam often during the fall and early winter of 1907-08. “I am going down to see old Clemens this morning,” Howells wrote his wife on Nov. 6 [MTHL 2: 827].

Charles J. Langdon wrote enclosing a draft for $137.50 to Sam for payment of bonds from Duvall Co. Fla.

I trust you are in the best of health and that the Knickerbocker Trust Co.’s suspension has not caused you any serious inconvenience. Ida, Eda and I had more money in there than we wish we had, but are not seriously injured, and I hope in time we will get our money back.

I trust Aunt Sue reached you safely and in good condition last evening. I am sure that you and Clara and Jean and she will have an enjoyable time together [MTP].

Anna Harris Smith for the Animal Rescue League, Boston wrote to ask Sam if he could autograph “some of your books” for their fair and she had a buyer for 25 copies of either “A Dog’s Tale” or “The Horse’s Tale” [MTP]. Note: Lyon wrote on the letter, “Answd. Nov. 18, ‘07” and “Mr. Clemens will Autograph them”
