November 27 Wednesday – At 21 Fifth Ave, N.Y. Sam sent a telegram to Frances Nunnally, at St. Timothy’s School, Catonsville, Md: “I HOPE YOUR TEAM WILL WIN FRANCESCA DEAR I COULD NOT GO TO BOSTON” / SL CLEMENS” [MTP].

Sam also sent a telegram to Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Warfield, Governor of Maryland: “BEST THANKSGIVING WISHES TO YOU ALL, BY NO MEANS FORGETTING MISS LOUISE” [MTP].

Chauncey M. Depew wrote regarding Sam’s letter on the Robert Fulton Monument Assoc, that he was “very happy to serve in any body over which you are the presiding genius” [MTP].

Dorothy Quick wrote to Sam.

I was so glad to get your letter and to know you are well I often see your name in the paper so I suppose you are very busy   My Grandpa and Grandma expect to sail for Europe next Saturday on the new boat I shall be lonely without them especially Grandpa for as you know we are great chums I wish I was a big girl and all through school so I could go with him I have been very well so far and have only lost a few days at school which is doing very well for me our Sunday school class has gotten up a League and we have to make clothes for poor children it is lots of fun please write me very soon with lots of love to Miss Lyons and lots of hugs and kisses for you / lots of love / Dorothy [MTAq 84].
