November 14 Thursday – Sam took a walk up Fifth Ave. to 42nd Street. At 4 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension, Sam attended the wedding of Miss Marjorie Rice, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Clarence C. Rice, to Gordon Means of Boston [NY Times, Nov. 13, 1907, p. 9; Nov. 15 to Jean: Nov. 21 to Mary Rogers].

In the evening he played billiards till midnight [Nov. 15 to Jean].

Frank Fuller wrote to Sam to condemn those who used Mark Twain’s name for advertising, enclosing slips of examples (not in file) from the US Patent Office’s “Official Gazette” [MTP]. Note: see Nov. 19 by Loveland.

Thomas Commerford Martin for the Engineer’s Club wrote to Miss Lyon, sorry that Sam could not make the banquet honoring Andrew Carnegie on his 70th —could Sam send him “a few words” to read about Carnegie? [MTP]. Note: Sam did attend, so changed his mind.
