September 9 Monday – In Tuxedo Park, N.Y. Isabel V. Lyon wrote for Sam to Samuel E. Moffett. “Mr. Clemens asks me to thank you for sending to Washington for the lists for him.It was a pity you missed him so frequently, but we shall be back in New York about the first of November, not before I believe” [MTP].

Isabel Lyon’s journal: Tablecloth. / Colonel Harvey came again to spend a night and talk. But Dorothy was here and made an interruption to everything it seemed to me, who am now a little tired. But he got the King’s consent—his glad consent—to syndicate the autobiography in newspapers throughout the country and so the King will reach his “submerged clientele”. It will not bring him in a penny though. If anyone gets anything it will be the Harpers and they will not get much for newspapers do not pay much for matter—no matter how great—which has already been published. It will be a good advertisement for the King’s books though [MTP TS 101-102].

F.W. Baumhoff & C.M. Keys & Mrs. F.W. Biebinger wrote for Missouri Old Folks Sunshine Home to solicit support from Sam [MTP]. Note: Lyon wrote on the letter, “Answd. Sept. 16, ‘07”

George W. Keates, Interior decorator per E.W. Ward wrote to solicit Sam for their services on his Redding home [MTP].

Charles J. Langdon wrote from Elmira, NY to Sam having rec’d Lyon’s letter of Aug. 31 inviting him and Edward and Julie Loomis to visit the first week of Oct. Since Julie could not make it then he felt it best to postpone, as he claimed to be “a mighty poor visitor myself” [MTP].

Jervis Langdon II wrote a letter full of details about the Hope-Jones Organ Co. and stock [MTP].

Hugh Gordon Miller for NY State Commission to the Jamestown Exposition wrote to invite Sam to a banquet at the Exposition grounds, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. [MTP]. Note: Lyon wrote for Sam on the back of the letter, “Will take the admiral Waterbird himself / Has no land connections”

Anna R. Shourds wrote from Buffalo, NY, one-line of admiration for Twain’s books [MTP]. Note: Lyon wrote on the letter, “Answd. Sept. 9 ‘07”
