September 11 Wednesday – Isabel Lyon’s journal: I had what the King calls “an adventure” this rainy morning. A Mr. Ullman, a man who does writing for newspaper syndicates came out by appointment to see me and so write an article about the way the King spends his day. He was planning to make it seem as if he had really had “a day with Mark Twain” and only after continued determination on my part would he consent to have the interview come through me. He is to submit his ms. to me. When that was promised I could and did talk freely and we had a very good time. He is full of a fine and just appreciation of the King, and when I went up and told the King about it after Ullman had gone, he was pleased. The King was playing with Dorothy; playing games, and having her go on with her part of the Authors’ League [MTP TS 102]. Note: Albert E. Ullman.

I.L. Baëza wrote from NYC to Sam looking to find his “Beef Contract” article [MTP]. Note: Lyon wrote on the letter, “Answd. Sept. 30”; “In Sketches Old & New / Facts in the Case of the Great Beef Contract”

Walter Sands Mills, M.D. for The Homeopathic Medical Society of the County of New York wrote to invite Sam to appear for their charity on Nov. 11 to celebrate their 50th Anniversary [MTP].

David A. Munro wrote to Sam enclosing the proof of his 23rd chapter Autobiography [MTP].
